HOW A STORM CLAIM CAN EFFECT YOU?
Storm-related insurance claims are evaluated differently than standard claims because weather events are considered uncontrollable acts of nature. As a result, damage caused by wind, hail, or other severe storms is not attributed to homeowner negligence, and filing a legitimate storm claim alone does not typically result in your individual policy being canceled or singled out for rate increases. Instead, insurance premiums are largely determined on a geographic (ZIP code) basis, meaning rates may rise for all homeowners in an area following increased storm activity—regardless of whether a claim was filed. In other words, if you live in a storm-prone region, your premiums may adjust over time due to overall risk exposure, not because you exercised your right to file a valid claim.
